Is a 6.7 Power Stroke a good fit for mostly short trips?

Occasional short trips are one thing. A truck that rarely warms up during its normal week is a different proposition. The 6.7 Power Stroke uses a diesel particulate filter, and its cleaning process needs suitable operating conditions. Ford's 2016 diesel supplement specifically flags short, low-speed trips and significant stationary operation as patterns that can leave regeneration incomplete. That is a reason to look honestly at your routine, not a prediction that every commuter truck will fail. Before buying, write down a normal week: commute length, traffic, idle time, and how often you actually tow. A weekend trip you might take is less useful than the driving you already do. Ask the seller about recurring exhaust-filter messages, reduced-power events, and any related repairs. Have a diesel shop inspect the emissions system and scan the truck before purchase. Do not count on an occasional hard acceleration or a fixed weekly highway ritual to guarantee a clean DPF. Follow the instructions for the truck's exact year and respond to its messages. If nearly all your driving is brief errands and towing is rare, compare a gasoline Super Duty before paying for the diesel. The right truck should suit your ordinary Tuesday as well as your camping trip.
