Is a diesel truck worth it if you do not tow every day?
A buyer wants the torque and resale value of a diesel truck, but most of their driving is empty commuting, errands, and occasional weekend towing.

Usually, no. A diesel makes the most sense when the truck works often: towing heavy, hauling weight, running long highway miles, or doing jobs where torque matters.
If you mostly drive empty, the math changes. Diesel maintenance costs more. Repairs can cost more. Modern emissions systems also prefer regular heat and highway use. Short trips and light use can create problems over time.
Look at the real job first. If you tow a heavy camper, equipment trailer, or gooseneck often, diesel can be worth it. If you tow a few times a year and the trailer is within gas-truck ratings, a gas 2500 or 3500 may be the cleaner buy.
The best answer is not diesel or gas. It is payload, tow rating, condition, service history, and how the truck was used. Buy the truck that fits the work you actually do.
