A fleet-owned diesel can be a good buy if the records are real and the price matches the use. The upside is maintenance. Many fleet trucks get regular oil changes, inspections, tires, brakes, and documented repairs. They may also have clear ownership history and less mystery than a private sale. The downside is use. Fleet trucks can idle a lot, tow heavy, carry tools, run job sites, get driven by many people, and receive only the maintenance required to stay working. Cosmetic care may be low. Interior wear, bed damage, suspension wear, and rust can be worse than mileage suggests. Ask for service records, engine hours, idle hours, prior role, towing or payload use, and repair history. Inspect the frame, bed, hitch, suspension, tires, brakes, and cab. A documented fleet truck can be smart. A mystery fleet truck is just a used work truck with a story.
