Is high idle time bad on a diesel truck?
Some diesel trucks show reasonable mileage but high idle hours. I want to know how idle time should affect a used truck decision.

High idle time matters because engine hours can tell a different story than odometer miles. A truck used for job sites, cold weather, fleet work, or long warmups may have more wear than mileage alone suggests. Idle hours are not automatically bad, but they should change how you evaluate the truck. Ask why the idle time is high, compare engine hours to mileage, look for service records, and inspect for soot, emissions-system issues, oil leaks, cooling problems, battery wear, and maintenance gaps. A high-idle truck with fleet records may still be a good buy. A high-idle truck with no explanation should be priced with caution.
