The 3.0 Duramax can be a good fit for buyers who want diesel torque and fuel economy in a half-ton truck. But high mileage still needs careful checking.
Ask for oil changes, fuel-filter service, emissions-system history, coolant records, and any dealer repairs. On some 3.0 Duramax trucks, buyers pay close attention to oil pump belt service intervals and related labor cost, so verify the exact engine generation and maintenance schedule.
Check cold starts, warning lights, regen history if available, leaks, coolant level, transmission behavior, and whether the truck mostly did short trips or highway miles. Short-trip use can be harder on emissions systems.
Also be honest about towing. A 3.0 Duramax half-ton is not the same tool as a 2500 Duramax. It can be a good daily driver and light tow rig. For heavy campers or fifth wheels, payload may be the limit.
