Should I buy a pre-emissions diesel truck?
I am comparing older pre-emissions diesel trucks against newer trucks with more comfort and cleaner interiors.

A pre-emissions diesel truck can make sense if you value simplicity, lower emissions-system complexity, and older-platform durability more than comfort, safety tech, and newer mileage. The mistake is assuming pre-emissions automatically means cheap or trouble-free. These trucks are older now, so rust, worn steering, tired suspension, transmission wear, leaks, wiring age, and neglected maintenance can cost more than emissions repairs on a newer truck. Buy on condition, documentation, and use case. A clean older truck with records can be a good tool. A rusty, abused, heavily tuned truck with missing history can become expensive fast, even if the engine has a strong reputation.
