What is a deleted diesel truck?

Some used diesel listings mention deleted, tuned, emissions off, or no DEF. I want to understand what that means before contacting a seller.

A deleted diesel truck usually means emissions equipment has been removed, disabled, or bypassed, often along with tuning. The exact parts vary by truck and model year, but the phrase can refer to EGR, DPF, SCR, DEF, sensors, or calibration changes. For a buyer, the key issue is risk. A deleted truck may not be legal for road use in many places, may fail inspection, may be harder to finance or warranty, and may hide poor workmanship or aggressive tuning. Before buying, ask what was changed, who did the work, whether original parts are included, whether the truck can pass local requirements, and whether the tune is documented. Price it as a higher-risk vehicle unless everything is clear and legal for your use case.
